MILLEDGEVILLE —
Kroger developers recently paid tribute to a local realtor for his contributions to the Kroger store relocation effort.
When the new Kroger opened in late 2010, few knew the stories behind the store's journey to its new location. David Jackson is a realtor with Craig-Massee Real Estate and said the store finding a home near the intersection of U.S. 441 and Log Cabin Road would likely not have happened without the direct involvement of the late Bill Craig.
Craig brokered the real estate deal that found the company at the current site.
The deal took three years and four months to close. Kroger developer Paul Xhajanka met numerous times with the Realtors as the details of the deal were individually worked out.
Jackson said Craig's passing was felt before the project was finished.
Kroger developers wanted to name the Log Cabin Access road after Craig. Now a sign stands at the corner of Bill Craig Drive and Log Cabin Road marking the access street that for now leads to Kroger, but will soon lead to even more development as the shopping center grows around the anchor grocery store.
