Georgia: A national fishing destination

Imagine a clear sunny day out on a boat on a smooth lake.

You cast your line and wait for that bite. In no time, you’ve hooked a big one and are celebrating your catch.

This is the kind of vision Gov. Sonny Perdue has for Georgia. In his state-of-the-address on Wednesday, Perdue said he wants Georgia to become “a fisherman’s paradise.”

The $19 million “Go Fish Georgia” initiative seeks to establish Georgia as a national fishing destination through a three-tiered approach: Improving the quality of fishing in Georgia waters, improving access to water bodies for fishing in Georgia and increasing participation through active promotion and marketing of Georgia’s exceptional fishing resources, a Department of Natural Resources releases states.
