MILLEDGEVILLE — The Baldwin County Fire Rescue will kick off their third annual Kids-Yule-Love Toy Drive on Nov. 1. Toys collected will be distributed to local children. Any business that would like to participate as a drop point for the public, or would like to do an employee collection, please contact the Baldwin County Fire Head Quarters at (478) 445-4421. The toys will be distributed by the Department of Family and Children Services to families that apply for Christmas Assistance. The follow stations will be drop points: Allen Memorial Drive, Central State Hospital campus, Carr Station Road, Highway 22 and Lovers Lane and Log Cabin Road.

On Friday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m., Milledgeville’s Town and Country Garden Club will unveil a Blue Star Memorial Marker at Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2617 Vinson Highway S.E.

An event benefiting Michael Barfield will take place at Ivey Tire, 900 N. Jefferson St., on Nov. 10. Recycle for Michael is meant to assist Barfield after he was injured in an accident. Flu vaccines are now available at the Baldwin County Health Department. They will offer both the traditional flu shot and Flu Mist, which is a nasal spray. Vaccines will cost $25 but are available at no charge to those on Medicaid, Peachcare, Wellcare, Amerigroup, Medicare Part B, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia or a State Benefit Plan through United Healthcare or Cigna. Flu vaccines will also be offered in the schools this year. Parents will receive permission slips from their child’s school in the coming weeks.

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Harriet’s Closet, a free supply closet to help fill the needs of cancer patients, is open. The nonprofit organization dedicated to helping cancer patients in Central Georgia has relocated next door to Georgia Cancer Specialists building at Oconee Regional Medical Center. 10 a.m.: Digital Bridges will host an “Intro to iPad” class. The class will focus on basics, including: primary iPad components, e-mail, touch screen typing, keyboard controls, basic and included applications and web browsing.
