MILLEDGEVILLE — Flu vaccines are now available at the Baldwin County Health Department. They will offer both the traditional flu shot and Flu Mist, which is a nasal spray. Vaccines will cost $25 but are available at no charge to those on Medicaid, Peachcare, Wellcare, Amerigroup, Medicare Part B, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia or a State Benefit Plan through United Healthcare or Cigna. Flu vaccines will also be offered in the schools this year. Parents will receive permission slips from their child’s school in the coming weeks.

The Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy of Baldwin County will host its inaugural Book it to the Finish 5K fundraiser. A Tiny Trot for children 6 and under will take place and a costume contest will be held as well. The event will provide children ages birth to 5 with appropriate books, one every month until their fifth birthday. All proceeds raised will stay in Baldwin County and be used to give books to all local children under the age of 5. Registration for the Tiny Trot and the 5K is $25 until the day of the race. Registration forms can be picked up from any of the sponsors or at www.active.com. Family registration is $60 with a maximum of four people. Checks should be made payable to the Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy. The event will take place at the North Baldwin County Fire Station at 105 Airport Road Sept. 29.

Tickets for the Haunted Trolley Tour go on sale at 9 a.m. Oct. 1 at the Milledgeville Convention and Visitor Bureau, 200 W. Hancock St.

Oconee Regional Healthcare Foundation’s “An Evening in Paris” will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Centennial Center on the GC Campus. Tickets are $125 each and can be purchased by calling (478) 456-9866.

Middle Georgia Art Association is taking submissions for the judged exhibit “Harvest Time.” Entrants must be 18 or older and out of high school. The deadline to enter is 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16. For more information, call (478) 744-9557 or e-mail middlegeorgiaart@bellsouth.net.



Saturday, Sept. 29

9 a.m.: Yoga at the Greenway every Saturday morning. Bring a yoga mat and/or towel. All ages welcome. A $1 to $5 donation is appreciated. For more information, call (478) 973-9767.

9 a.m. to noon: The Fall Line Farmers Market is now open every Saturday morning in the parking lot behind First Presbyterian Church, 210 S. Wayne Street rain or shine. More than a dozen middle-Georgia farmers and producers who live in a 100-mile radius of Milledgeville sell a wide selection of naturally grown, seasonal vegetables; grass-fed beef and lamb; heritage breed pork; free-range eggs; hormone-free dairy products including butter and yogurt; artisan bread and cheese; local honey and preserves; baked goods including specialty cakes; perennial plants and more. Come sample, browse and take advantage of the opportunity to meet and talk with folks who are passionate about providing locally grown, delicious food. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: The Milledgeville Museum Association invites the public to partake in Museum Day. Museum Day is meant to promote the treasures that are museums. On Museum Day all museums in Milledgeville will welcome the public in free of charge if they present a Smithsonian Museum Day ticket, tickets are available at www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday. The participating museums in Milledgeville are: Andalusia, Blackbridge Hall Art Gallery, Brown-Stetson-Sanford House, GCSU’s Natural History Museum, Georgia’s Old Capital Museum, John Marlor Art Center, Lockerly Hall and Arboretum, Old Governor’s Mansion, GCSU Museum/Flannery O’Connor Room. Monday, Oct. 1

10 a.m.: Oconee Valley Family YMCA meets at People’s Bank at Harmony Road and Highway 44.

Noon to 4 p.m.: Harriet’s Closet, a free supply closet to help fill the needs of cancer patients, is open. The nonprofit organization dedicated to helping cancer patients in Central Georgia has relocated next door to Georgia Cancer Specialists building at Oconee Regional Medical Center. 1 to 3 p.m.: Mary Vinson Memorial Library and Digital Bridges host an Open Computer Clinic at the Library. The clinic is designed to teach basic skills to adult beginning computer users. 3 p.m.: “The Mourning After” a bereavement group sponsored by Hospice Care Options is held at the First Baptist Church on South Liberty Street in Milledgeville. The event is free and open to the public. (478) 453-8572.

7 p.m.: BINGO is held at the American Legion on Log Cabin Road. No one under the age of 18 is permitted. Refreshments are sold by the Ladies Auxiliary. (478) 452-8538

7:30 p.m.: The Oconee River Buskers Square Dance Club meets at the Walter B. Williams Recreation Center.

7:30 p.m.: The Baldwin County chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference meets at American Legion Post 523.



Tuesday, Oct. 2

10:30 a.m.: A Senior Olympic badminton club will be held at the Baldwin County Recreation Department gym.

11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Cafe Central is open every Tuesday at Freedom Church in Milledgeville. A free meal will be served to everyone who comes. For information on volunteering, call (478) 453-4400.

12:45 p.m.: The Milledgeville Kiwanis Club meets at the Milledgeville Country Club. Visitors are welcome to the program and to lunch with a club sponsor.

1 p.m.: The Eatonton Duplicate Bridge Club, an official member of the American Contract Bridge League, meets at the Eatonton Performing Arts Center on Madison Avenue in Eatonton. Come with a partner or e-mail Pat Turney at turney@plantationcable.net for a possible partner match.

3 to 6 p.m.: Milledgeville Marketplace Farmers Market features locally grown produce and hand made products. It is located in the city lot at 222 East Hancock between the Chevron Golden Pantry and the Huddle House. Free customer parking is available in the top parking area, and additional parking is located in the freshly cut grassy field just behind the lot.

3:30 to 6:30 p.m.: Digital Bridges Open Computer Clinic is open in the Knight Community Innovation Center, 127 W. Hancock St. Work station availability is limited. 6 p.m.: The County Commission meets in the Baldwin County Courthouse in Rm. 319.

6:30 p.m.: American Legion Auxiliary Post 523 meets at 430 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. All members are urged to attend.
