MILLEDGEVILLE — Baldwin County Fire Rescue is selling tickets for barbecue chicken plates at $7 each. The money raised will help the department purchase equipment. Tickets can be purchased at the Headquarters station at 312 Allen Memorial Dr., in Milledgeville. The plates will be available for pick up on July 24 from noon to 3 p.m.

Ocmulgee Court Appointed Special Advocates are again recruiting volunteers for an early fall training. CASA volunteers work with children that find themselves in the custody of the Department of Family and Children Services. CASA volunteers provide a voice for these children in court. Oconee Regional Medical Center offers a free smoking cessation class from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, Wednesday, Aug. 11, Tuesday, Aug. 17 and Wednesday, Aug. 25. Allied Arts Summer Camp for Youth presents digital photography sponsored by Allied Arts & Digital Bridges and hosted by Rudy Mendes. Session 1 is for ages 6 to 9 and will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, Session 2 is for ages 10 and up and will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 19 to Friday, July 23 at Allen’s Market Building, 101 W. “Georgia Through Time and Art” camp will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Georgia’s Old Capital Museum. The camp is for ages rising 2nd through 7th graders ages 7 through 13 and will be held in the Activity Room at the museum. Children ages 7-10 will enjoy picturing history through pots and quills, quilts and coverings, fun with folk art, and beautiful botanicals; children ages 10-13 will explore basic and intermediate still life drawing in charcoal, pencil and chalk, painting with watercolors, and making hand-built pottery using slab and coil techniques. The cost per camp session is $125 and includes a Family museum membership ($40 value).



Wednesday, July 21

10:30 a.m. to noon: Free computer classes for seniors will be held at the Senior Citizens Center in Baldwin County.

10:30 a.m.: VIP, a support group for visually impaired persons, meets at the First Presbyterian Church, 210 S. Wayne St. (478) 452-1444

Noon: Milledgeville Exchange Club meets at the Milledgeville Country Club.

6 p.m.: The Oconee Regional Medical Center/Oconee Regional Health Systems, Inc. Boards of Directors meets in the Administrative Suite Board Room.

Thursday, July 22

7 a.m.: The Old Capital Kiwanis Club meets in Room 2-52 of Herty Hall on the GCSU campus.

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Harriet’s Closet, a free supply closet to help fill the needs of cancer patients, is open. The non-profit organization dedicated to helping cancer patients in Central Georgia has relocated next door to Georgia Cancer Specialists building at Oconee Regional Medical Center. (478) 451-3413.
