The Animal Rescue Foundation, 711 S. Wilkinson St., is holding a special end of the year adoption event. Adoption fees will be waived for the first cat and dog adopted on each of the four days of celebration. All other animals adopted have a reduced adoption fee of $50. The microchip fee for dogs remains. The event will run Thursday, Dec. 27 through Saturday, Dec. 29 and Monday, Dec. 31. Middle Georgia Art Association is accepting submissions for their Flowers, Twigs and Buds exhibit. The exhibit will be judged and is open to all Middle Georgia artists in all media. You must be 18 or older and out of high school to enter. Allied Arts will host a Chair Bottoming Workshop on Jan. 26, 2013 from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Registration is $62 and includes all materials. If you need a chair provided for the workshop or need more information, contact Allied Arts at (478) 452-3950. Instructors will be Randy Cannon and Brian Renko.

Flu vaccines are now available at the Baldwin County Health Department. They will offer both the traditional flu shot and Flu Mist, which is a nasal spray. Vaccines will cost $25 but are available at no charge to those on Medicaid, Peachcare, Wellcare, Amerigroup, Medicare Part B, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia or a State Benefit Plan through United Healthcare or Cigna.

Baldwin County Environmental Office encourages everyone who used a live tree for the holidays to please recycle your tree when no longer in use. Beginning Dec. 26 trees free of lights and decorations may be dropped off at the Georgia Department of Transportation Maintenance facility, 161 Blandy Road.

Monday, Dec. 31

Noon to 4 p.m.: Harriet's Closet, a free supply closet to help fill the needs of cancer patients, is open. The nonprofit organization dedicated to helping cancer patients in Central Georgia has relocated next door to Georgia Cancer Specialists building at Oconee Regional Medical Center. 6 p.m.: “The Mourning After” a bereavement group sponsored by Hospice Care Options and the GC Psychology Department is held in room 1-15 in the GC Arts and Sciences Building. The event is free and open to the public. (478) 453-8572.
