MILLEDGEVILLE — The sixth annual Georgia College Global Symposium Literacy, Learning and Leading: Education for a 21st Century World runs Feb. 4 to 6. Sponsored by the International Education Center, American Democracy Project, academic departments and faculty/student organizations, the Global Symposium activities are free and open to the public. All events take place in the Magnolia Ballroom at the Student Activities Center, unless otherwise noted next to event listing. Ocmulgee Court Appointed Special Advocates is looking for volunteers for its next training session. CASA is a non-profit organization that works with abused and neglected children that have found themselves involved in the court system through no fault of their own. These children need a voice in court and that is the role of CASA to see that these children have an opportunity to have their voices heard and to received services needed. Interested volunteers should contact the CASA office at (478) 452-9170 or visit their website at www.ocmulgeecasa.org.

The City of Milledgeville water department will be conducting maintenance on the 1 million gallon ground storage water tank located on Dunlap Road. The tank will be out of service beginning Jan. 29 and will remain out of service for approximately six weeks. This is part of the City's preventive maintenance program to ensure a high quality of drinking water for our customers. Customers in this area may experience low water pressure and/or discoloured water. If you experience this please contact the Water and Sewer office at (478) 414-4052.

Flu vaccines are now available at the Baldwin County Health Department. They will offer both the traditional flu shot and Flu Mist, which is a nasal spray. Vaccines will cost $25 but are available at no charge to those on Medicaid, Peachcare, Wellcare, Amerigroup, Medicare Part B, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia or a State Benefit Plan through United Healthcare or Cigna.



Thursday, Jan. 31

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Harriet's Closet, a free supply closet to help fill the needs of cancer patients, is open. The nonprofit organization dedicated to helping cancer patients in Central Georgia has relocated next door to Georgia Cancer Specialists building at Oconee Regional Medical Center. Noon: The Rotary meets at the Country Club.

Noon: The Eatonton Kiwanis Club meets at Central Georgia Tech on the James Marshall bypass.

1 p.m.: The Eatonton Duplicate Bridge Club, an official member of the American Contract Bridge League, meets at the Eatonton Performing Arts Center at Madison Avenue in Eatonton. Come with a partner or e-mail Pat Turney at turney@plantationcable.net for a possible partner match.

2 to 5 p.m.: Free HIV testing at 900 Barrows Ferry Road. (478) 445-5518.

3 to 5 p.m.: Digital Bridges Open Computer Clinic is open in the Knight Community Innovation Center, 127 W. Hancock St. Work station availability is limited. The clinic is designed to teach basic skills to adult beginning computer users. Participants may come with specific questions or for general knowledge.
