Ocmulgee CASA begins training Tuesday, Feb. 23 in Milledgeville for new Court Appointed Special Advocates. Ocmulgee CASA serves the abused children in Baldwin, Morgan, Greene, Putnam, Hancock, Jasper, Jones, Wilkinson and Hancock Counties. Anyone interested in advocating for abused children, please call (478) 452-9170 or email ocasalm@baldwin.k12.ga.us in advance of classes.



Thursday, Feb. 4

7 a.m.: The Old Capital Kiwanis Club meets in Room 2-52 of Herty Hall on the GCSU campus.

Noon: The Rotary meets at the Country Club.

Noon: The Eatonton Kiwanis Club meets at Central Georgia Tech on the James Marshall bypass.

1 p.m.: The Eatonton Duplicate Bridge Club, an official member of the American Contract Bridge League, meets at the Eatonton Performing Arts Center at Madison Avenue in Eatonton. Come with a partner or e-mail Pat Turney at turney@plantationcable.net for a possible partner match.

2 to 5 p.m.: Free HIV testing at 900 Barrows Ferry Road. (478) 445-5518

4:30 p.m.: The Baldwin County Chapter of the Fort Valley State Alumni Association meets at the public service building at the Milledgeville Police Department.

5:30 p.m.: The Bicycling Club of Milledgeville meets at Bartram Forest on Carl Vinson Road for its weekly mountain bike ride for all levels. Ride at your own pace.

7 p.m.: The Milledgeville Lions Club meets at the Golden Corral on North Columbia Street.

7:30 p.m.: Bingo is held at the American Legion Post 523 on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Refreshments will be sold. (478) 452-1611



Friday, Feb. 5

9:30 a.m.: K through 12 students will compete in the 33rd Annual Regional Science and Engineering Fair in the Centennial Center at Georgia College & State University. Georgia College’s Science Education Center will host the event that includes student projects from Baldwin, Bibb, Hancock, Jones, Putnam, Washington, Wilkinson, and Monroe counties. The fair will take place at the Centennial Center and judging of projects will begin at 9:30 a.m. Awards will be presented to the elementary school winners at 3 p.m. at the Arts and Sciences Auditorium.

11:15 a.m.: Learning in Retirement meets in the University Banquet Room on the GCSU campus. Dr. Chelsey Sigmon Mercado, Chari of the Department of Music Therapy, will speak. This will be an interactive presentation with hands-on opportunities. Cost of lunch is $7.65, payable at the door. Guests are welcome.



Saturday, Feb. 6

11 a.m.: K through 12 students will compete in the 33rd Annual Regional Science and Engineering Fair in the Centennial Center at Georgia College & State University. Middle and high school winners will be awarded at 11 a.m. at the Arts and Sciences Auditorium.

Noon to 4 p.m.: Georgia’s Old Capital Museum, 301 E. Greene Street, will open its doors for a fun, free, family-oriented afternoon to commemorate the founding of Georgia in 1733. Enjoy free admission to the museum’s 10 galleries, meet Gen. James Oglethorpe, enjoy refreshments and music, and see the exhibit, “Duty, Country, Honor,” chronicling the history of Georgia Military College.
