Oconee Regional Medical Center offers a free smoking cessation class from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, Wednesday, Aug. 11, Tuesday, Aug. 17 and Wednesday, Aug. 25. IMPACT class for prospective foster and adoptive parents in Baldwin, Putnam, Greene and Jones Counties will be held at the Jones County Department of Family and Children Services. Classes are held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on four consecutive Saturdays beginning Aug. 7 through Aug. 28. All classes are mandatory. Missed classes can be made up. Preregistration is required by calling (478) 445-7020 or (706) 484-2927. Help meet the needs of a child in foster care by choosing to foster and/or adopt.
Straight Street Ministries, House of Ananias, Inc., 201 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, holds on-site registration for its after school homework assistance program from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, and Friday, Aug. 13. The program begins Aug. 17 and provides free assistance with homework with special attention to math skills and online computer prep for the Georgia CRCT for students in grades three through five. Ocmulgee Court Appointed Special Advocates are again recruiting volunteers for an early fall training. CASA volunteers work with children that find themselves in the custody of the Department of Family and Children Services. CASA volunteers provide a voice for these children in court. Noon: The Eatonton Kiwanis Club meets at Central Georgia Tech on the James Marshall bypass.

All elementary, middle school and high school students attending Baldwin County schools and their parents/guardians are invited to attend.
