MILLEDGEVILLE —
Oconee Regional Medical Center offers a free smoking cessation class from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, Wednesday, Aug. 11, Tuesday, Aug. 17 and Wednesday, Aug. 25. The class is sponsored by the American Cancer Society and will be held in the hospital’s Park Tower Education Center. For more information, please call (478) 454-3500 ext. 3705.
IMPACT class for prospective foster and adoptive parents in Baldwin, Putnam, Greene and Jones Counties will be held at the Jones County Department of Family and Children Services. Classes are held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on four consecutive Saturdays beginning Aug. 7 through Aug. 28. All classes are mandatory. Missed classes can be made up. Preregistration is required by calling (478) 445-7020 or (706) 484-2927. Help meet the needs of a child in foster care by choosing to foster and/or adopt.
Ocmulgee Court Appointed Special Advocates are again recruiting volunteers for an early fall training. CASA volunteers work with children that find themselves in the custody of the Department of Family and Children Services. CASA volunteers provide a voice for these children in court. Monday, July 26
Noon to 4 p.m.: Harriet’s Closet, a free supply closet to help fill the needs of cancer patients, is open. The non-profit organization dedicated to helping cancer patients in Central Georgia has relocated next door to Georgia Cancer Specialists building at Oconee Regional Medical Center. (478) 451-3413. 5:30 p.m.: Milledgeville-Baldwin County Development Authority meets in the Chamber of Commerce office.
6 p.m.: “The Mourning After” a bereavement group sponsored by Hospice Care Options and the GCSU Psychology Department is held in room 1-15 in the GCSU Arts and Sciences Building. The event is free and open to the public. (478) 453-8572
6 to 7:30 p.m.: The Oconee Suicide Prevention Coalition presents Survivors of Suicide Support Group at River Edge Behavioral Center on Blandy Way. The group provides an opportunity for friends and family who have lost a loved one by suicide to connect with other survivors in a safe and healing environment. Volunteer facilitators are Leanne Branch, Ken Garland and Jessica Baker. This service is offered at no charge. For more information, contact River Edge Behavior Center at (478) 445-1290.

The Milledgeville City Council meeting regularly scheduled for Tuesday, July 27, has been canceled.

12:45 p.m.: The Milledgeville Kiwanis Club meets at the Milledgeville Country Club. Visitors are welcome to the program and to lunch with a club sponsor.

4 p.m.: N.A.M.I. (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Oconee, a support group for consumers, family, and friends of individuals with a severe mental illness/brain disorder, meets in the Christian Education Building of Covenant Presbyterian Church at 440 N. Columbia St. (478) 452-8600.
6 p.m.: The Bicycling Club of Milledgeville meets in the parking lot behind Oconee Outfitters for its weekly road ride. Beginner pace for first hour, moderate pace later.
