The Union-Recorder
MILLEDGEVILLE —
After reading your article on Victory Baptist Church, it makes one wonder why government seems to always find a way to get in the way of progress.
Yes, the church agreed to build a deceleration lane, but it cannot even begin the process until the county moves the fire hydrant that currently would be in the deceleration lane.
The church has lost membership during this building process and cannot raise new money until they can get into the new church and membership returns with their contributions.
It seems several of the county commissioners want to help and give some sort of extension to the church to build the lane. The one county lawyer says no. The lawyer is an employee of the commission and is giving his opinion to the commission, not a vote and not the law, only his opinion. So who runs the county commission? The elected commission or their employee? Same as state government hired directors running the state, not the elected officials.
So let’s begin at home and return the final decision to the ones held responsible to the people — our elected commission and “LET THE PEOPLE IN” the church so they can grow its membership and begin to raise needed funds while the county does its part by moving the fire hydrant.
