ATHENS — Barberitos, an all-natural, all-fresh burrito company, announces its menu of burritos, salads, tacos, nachos, quesadillas and fajitas is completely trans fat free.
Responding to the growing needs for healthier foods, Barberitos recently introduced a new menu, offering seven meals all with 7 grams of fat or less.
“We always have known our foods are fresh and healthy, and now our menu has no trans fat, making Barberitos a healthier alternative to fast foods for our customers,” said Downing Barber, founder and CEO.
Trans fatty acids, also known as trans fat, is an artery clogging fat that can be found in margarine, shortening and fried foods.
According to the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) trans fats are harmful because it raises low-density lipoprotein (LDL), or bad cholesterol levels, which increases the risk of coronary heart disease.
According to the American Heart Association, trans fats are often used in foods because they’re easy to use, inexpensive to produce and last a long time, and many restaurants use trans fats to deep-fry foods because oils with trans fats can be used many times in commercial fryers.
“We are not concerned with shelf life for our foods because delivery trucks come each morning with fresh vegetables and meats,” Barber said. “People are very busy and many times aren’t able to cook healthy meals. Barberitos provides them with fresh, fast and absolutely delicious food that is healthy for their families.”
Barberitos is a major player in the burrito industry. Commitment to serving only fresh, natural foods that are made in-house daily fuels the success of
Barberitos.
Barberitos has locations in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee.
