Crime Digest, February 6, 2010

The following is information compiled from public records taken from reports of the Milledgeville Police Department and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. These reports do not reflect guilt or innocence. An “arrest” does not always indicate incarceration. The charges filed are noted in the narrative.

Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office

— Theft by taking

A deputy responded to the 100 block of Fifth Street Feb. 1 in reference to a theft by taking incident. According to the complainant, sometime between Dec. 30 and Feb. 1, tenants occupying the dwelling moved out and took one Hotpoint washing machine, one GE refrigerator and one Kenmore air conditioner without permission.

— Gas drive off

An employee of Murphy’s USA, in the 2500 block of North Colum-bia Street, reported that a man with the last name Johnson pumped $25.01 worth of fuel into his white Nissan Altima Feb. 2 and then parked in front of the store window. The complainant said that the man drove away without getting out of the car to pay for the gas. The complainant also said that the offender had done the same thing Jan. 29, though he returned to pay and no charges were taken. A warrant was taken out for theft by taking.

— Entering auto

A woman reported Feb. 2 that she heard a noise outside of her residence, in the 2200 block of Pinewood Drive. After hearing a gunshot go off, they locked the front door to the residence, and after a few minutes went by, she went to her vehicle and noticed that the front passenger side window had been busted. The woman stated that her purse, valued at $35 was taken from the vehicle. The contents of the purse included a Geico employee badge, Geico ATM Visa card, a driver’s license and an inactive Visa card. The officer then spoke with a witness who stated that she had seen a black male walking in front of her residence, with a ball cap on, just before the gunshot went off. The woman further said that she looked out the window because she could hear noises from outside. The officer then investigated the cause of the broken window and found a small hole, which appeared to be a bullet hole, on the passenger side of the front center console.
