MILLEDGEVILLE — The following is information compiled from public records taken from reports of the Milledgeville Police Department and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. It is our policy to not disclose the names of victims. These reports do not reflect guilt or innocence. An “arrest” does not always indicate incarceration. The charges filed are noted in the narrative.



Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office

— Financial transaction theft

A woman reported Aug. 16 that she went to her credit union to deposit $200 and she was informed that she was already overdrawn on her account by $301.95. The bank teller advised that the amount was paid to Direct TV, and the woman stated that she did not have a Direct TV account and the money was withdrawn without authorization.

— Financial transaction card fraud

A man and a woman reported Aug. 16 that on the previous date, six unauthorized online transactions were made using her debit card. The woman said she discovered the discrepancy in her account balance and immediately notified her bank.

— Theft by taking

A man reported Aug. 17 that he had his 50-pound bag of Alpo Dog Food and an orange toolbox filled with tools on the back porch of his home, in the 100 block of Ga. Highway 243, and he walked out of his back door this date and realized that the items were missing. The man said that someone also broke a window on the front of his home, but it did not appear as though entry was made into the residence.

— Burglary

A woman reported Aug. 18 that Nova Cabinet Shop, located at 3016 N. Columbia St., had been foreclosed on sometime in January. The woman, who was the previous owner of the business, said she was coming through town the previous night and stopped to check on the shop and noticed the 1997 GMC box truck was missing from the side parking lot. The woman further said that the deadbolt on the front door was unlocked, and the woman said she knows she locked it the last time she was at the business, approximately six to seven weeks ago. The woman went inside to check on things and found damage to the rear bay door. No other signs of a forced entry were observed by the deputy, but several hand tools, saws, belt sanders and other miscellaneous tools were reported stolen from the building. The truck is valued at $10,000.

— Theft by taking

A woman reported Aug. 18 that she believed that a girl who she spent the night with had stolen her wallet. The woman described the wallet as a camouflage checkbook type wallet. The wallet contained her birth certificate, social security card and two prepaid debit cards.



Milledgeville Police Department

— Theft by shoplifting

An officer was dispatched to Piggly Wiggly, in the 2400 block of North Columbia Street, Aug. 24 in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with an employee who stated that he observed a white male concealing a pack of razors in his back pocket. The man said he watched the subject walk in the bathroom and use the razor and the suspect exited the bathroom and removed the pack of razors from his back pocket. The man said he confronted the suspect and asked him to stop and then called the police department. The officer made contact with the suspect and he was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of theft by shoplifting and released on an appearance ticket.

— Reckless conduct

On Aug. 24, an officer was dispatched to a call in reference to person with a weapon that was brandished at a victim while driving down the street. Upon arrival to the 2400 block of North Columbia Street, the officer met with the victim who stated that while he was traveling south on Columbia Street, a red Honda came up behind his vehicle so close that he could not see the vehicle behind him. The man said that he tapped on his brakes to advise the person behind him that he was there and the man stated that the suspect then backed away from him and passed him in the central turning lane of Columbia Street. The vehicle then attempted to speed away, but it was later stopped by a red light at Walmart, and he then attempted to advise the male suspect from his vehicle that he was calling the police and he had his tag number. The man said that the offender pulled out a pistol and showed it to him and then drove away. The man stated that he followed the man to the Milledgeville Mall where he parked and went inside of the mall to later return to his vehicle. After further investigation, the male subject was arrested and charged with count of aggressive driving, one count of reckless conduct and one count of carrying a concealed weapon.
