The following is information compiled from public records taken from reports of the Milledgeville Police Department and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. These reports do not reflect guilt or innocence. An “arrest” does not always indicate incarceration. The charges filed are noted in the narrative.
Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office
— Forgery
A woman reported Oct. 5 that she was contacted by an employee of Exchange Bank who advised that an unknown black male came into the bank and tried to pass a forged check from her business, Kwik Stop No. 4, in Putnam County. The woman said she has not been able to find a missing check at her business and was unfamiliar with how the man obtained the check.
— Entering auto
A man reported Oct. 6 that sometime between Oct. 2 and 5, an unknown person entered his 1998 Toyota Camry and took his Gateway laptop. The man said the vehicle was unlocked and parked at his home, in the 600 block of Lake Laurel Road, and no other items were taken from the vehicle.
— Theft by taking
A man reported Oct. 6 that someone had stolen his boat and trailer from his home in the 300 block of McCullar Weaver Road. The man said he last used his boat on Oct. 4 and he parked the trailer and boat in his from yard around 7 p.m. Oct. 4. He stated he discovered the boat and the trailer were missing later on Oct. 6.
— Burglary
The owner of 49 Auto Salvage reported Oct. 6 that he was advised that the front gate of the salvage yard was standing open. Upon arrival, the deputy noticed that the lock and chain on the front gate had been cut and also observed fresh tire tracks, as well as footprints, in the mud. Several deputies checked the salvage yard, but found no one around. The owner arrived on scene and was unable to determine if anything was stolen at the time of the report.
Milledgeville Police Department
— Found property
A man reported Oct. 6 that when he came outside of his home in the 100 block of East Hall Street with his wife, he noticed a firearm lying in the middle of the road. The complainant said that he brought the firearm to the police department.
— Fraud
A man reported Oct. 6 that he received a banking statement from his banking institution the previous date and there were numerous purchases listed on the statement that he did not make.
— Burglary
A man reported Oct. 6 that when he came into work, located at 757 N. Columbia St., he noticed that the rear door window was knocked in and that someone had stolen three of his tattoo guns and a Desert Eagle 45 handgun. The complainant further stated that he noticed several other tattoo guns missing and there was a cash drawer missing as well. The total estimated value of all the stolen items equaled to more than $4,000.
— Forgery of checks
A female employee of Exchange Bank reported Oct. 6 that a suspect was at the bank trying to cash a forged check. Upon arrival, the reporting officer made contact with the suspect and the suspect told him that he was a transient from Atlanta who was paid by someone to cash the check. The suspect, a 47-year-old black male from Atlanta, was taken into custody and the checks were turned over to the detectives. Additionally, a warrant was taken out for forgery.
— Forgery of checks
Personnel from Exchange Bank notified a detective Oct. 6 that a subject had tried to cash a forged checking earlier in the day and was walking near the bank. The subject was then stopped across the street and he matched the description given and he was then taken into custody and transported to the police department. Another detective had previously taken the check he tried to cash at the bank, and the case remains active pending further investigation by detectives.
— Theft
A man reported Oct. 6 that when he returned to his home, located in the 2400 block of Grandview Drive, he noticed that his rifle, valued at $250, was missing from his bedroom. The man said there were no signs of forced entry into his residence and his roommate stated that he did not take the item.
