The following is information compiled from public records taken from reports of the Milledgeville Police Department and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. These reports do not reflect guilt or innocence. An “arrest” does not always indicate incarceration. The charges filed are noted in the narrative.
Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office
— Burglary
A man reported Feb. 1 that several tools had been stolen from a shed on his property, located in the 400 block of Old Monticello Road. The man said the shed was not locked at the time and the tools were part of a set. The man said he noticed the tools were missing approximately Jan. 23, but he did not report the items stolen immediately because people often went to the shed and borrowed tools from him. The man said that everyone who lives around him knew about the tools, but he was unable to provide a suspect.
— Theft by taking
A deputy responded to the 100 block of Fifth Street Feb. 1 in reference to a theft by taking incident. According to the complainant, sometime between Dec. 30 and Feb. 1, tenants occupying the dwelling moved out and took one Hotpoint washing machine, one GE refrigerator and one Kenmore air conditioner without permission.
Milledgeville Police Department
— Burglary
A woman reported Jan. 29 that someone broke into her residence, located in the 1800 block of Tanglewood Road. According to the complainant, she has been staying with friends for the past couple of weeks, but she drives by the residence periodically to check on things. The woman said that all of her belongings were strewn around the house and several items, including a 19-inch television, a silver surround sound system and a silver DVD/VCR combo, were missing from the residence. She also stated that she left the house secured, but she believed that the suspect made entry through the laundry room door.
— Disorderly conduct
An officer was dispatched to Taco Bell Jan. 20 in reference to a fight between two females. Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant who said that she and the other female got into a physical altercation while they were driving north on Columbia Street. The woman said the other woman stopped at Taco Bell, made her get out of the vehicle and then drove off. The officer spoke with the driver via cell phone, and when she arrived on scene, she told the officer that she and the complainant were involved in an altercation while she was driving. Both parties were issued citations for disorderly conduct; however, neither party was arrested due to both being six and nine months pregnant, respectively.
— Larceny
A woman reported Jan. 31 that a black male passenger of a white Nissan Altima pumped $37.05 worth of gas at Murphy USA in the 2500 block of North Columbia Street and left the convenience store without paying.
— Criminal trespass
An officer responded to the 900 block of West Montgomery Street, Pecan Hills Apartments, Jan. 31 in reference to a woman wanting her sister removed from her grandmother’s apartment at the retirement home. The woman said the suspect had been staying with the victim at her retirement home at Pecan Hills with three small children, and the victim has multiple health issues, and the stress of the children is overwhelming her. The complainant wished to have the suspect collect her things and children and return to her residence on West Charlton Court. The suspect became hostile while the officer was on the scene and used obscenities toward the complainant. The female was also trespassed from the property.
— Theft by taking
A woman reported Feb. 1 that sometime in the last two days an unknown person stole two white rocking chairs off of the front porch of her home, located in the 600 block of North Columbia Street. The woman also said that someone spray painted the rails around the front porch red.
— Burglary
An employee of Gas Incorporated, located in the 500 block of South Wilkinson Street, reported that an unknown person cut the lock on the metal enclosure that held several 20-pound propane tanks. The complainant said approximately seven tanks were missing from the location and the tanks belong to the company.
— Theft by shoplifting
A 55-year-old man was arrested Feb. 1 after an employee of Maxway, located at 1031 S. Wayne St., witnessed the man hiding items underneath his shirt in the store. Upon arrival by the officer, the complainant told the officer that he had collected five shirts from underneath the suspect’s clothing, totaling to $53.50 and the man admitted to taking the items. He was subsequently taken into custody, transported to the Milledgeville Police Department and charged with one count of theft by shoplifting.
— Criminal trespass
An employee of Super China Buffet, in the 1800 block of North Columbia Street, reported that two patrons, a man and a woman, were “extremely disrespectful” while they were in her restaurant. The woman said that the subjects used curse words and attempted to close the front door of the business on her when she attempted to get the tag number from their vehicle. The woman requested the two patrons be trespassed from her business.
— Theft by receiving stolen property
A 21-year-old man was arrested Feb. 2 when an officer on patrol observed a silver vehicle speeding at 63 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone. Upon making a stop, the man’s Florida license was run through the system and a stolen hit was confirmed in St. Johns County, Fla. The driver was placed under arrest and charged with warrants on theft by receiving stolen property, speeding, driving on a suspended license and expired tag.
— Theft of services
A 48-year-old woman was arrested Feb. 2 after an officer went to the woman’s residence, located in the 400 block of West Thomas Street, upon receiving a tip from an anonymous individual that the woman may be stealing power from the meter. Upon arrival, the officer observed the power meter was turning, indicating that the power was on, and also observed that the meter box had been damaged and the unit was not Georgia Power issue. After speaking with Georgia Power, the officer was advised that there is no active service for power at that location. The woman, however, denied using the power and stated that she did not know that it was turned on. After the officer made contact with the woman, he noticed that the meter stopped turning and he asked the suspect if she turned the power off and she said that she did not have any power. The officer checked the breaker box and noticed that the main power break was turned off and he was able to turn it on. The officer also checked to see if the lamp was working, and it was, and also noted that the apartment was warm and it appeared that the heat was working. The woman said that sometime when she was not there, someone had put the unit in without her knowledge. The woman and another man were both arrested and charged with theft of services.
— Fraud
A woman reported Feb. 2 that someone went onto the Walmart.com Web site Dec. 7 and purchased items using her credit card information for a total purchase value of $176.06. The complainant said she called the company about the incident and had her credit card canceled. The company advised her that she needed a report for the incident.
