The following is information compiled from public records taken from reports of the Milledgeville Police Department and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. These reports do not reflect guilt or innocence. An “arrest” does not always indicate incarceration. The charges filed are noted in the narrative.



Milledgeville Police Department

— Burglary

A woman reported Jan. 27 that an unknown person entered her business, located in the 600 block of Dunlap Road, and went through her supply closet and drawers. The complainant said that nothing was missing at the time of the report, but she noticed that the window screen had been removed and the window had pry marks on it. The complainant said that she found the window screen behind the business by the trash can.

— Forgery

An employee of Century Bank and Trust reported Jan. 27 that a forged $20 bill came into the bank through a deposit made by the Friendly Gus convenience store located in the 3000 block of North Columbia Street.

— Theft by taking

A woman reported Jan. 28 that she gave a man a dollar to buy her child some juice and he spent it on beer. The woman said she wanted the man removed from her residence and given a trespass order.

— Gas drive-off

An employee of Murphy USA in the 2500 block of North Columbia Street reported Jan. 28 that a big, tall black male in a silver Nissan Altima pumped $30.18 of gas and left without paying. Approximately three hours later, the owner of the vehicle returned to the store and paid for the gas.

— Lost or stolen property

A woman reported Jan. 28 that after she picked up her 2000 BMW 528i from the shop at Beckham’s, her Georgia tag was missing. The woman said that the tag was on the vehicle when she brought it in for repairs.

— Theft by taking

A man reported Jan. 29 that sometime between Jan. 23 and this date, an unknown person took a mailbox from a home in the 400 block of North Clarke Street without the owner’s permission. The approximate value is listed as $25.



Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office

— Theft by taking

A man reported Jan. 29 that he had a black battery charger stolen from his carport, located in the 100 block of Sportsmans Trail, sometime during the previous week. The man said he thought he remembered seeing the battery charger underneath his carport Jan. 25 and realized it was missing Jan. 27. The man said he asked around the neighborhood and was told that a man was seen in the area carrying a battery charger and a chain saw.

— Vehicle fire

A deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of Highway 49, near the Jones County Line, Jan. 29 around 9:30 p.m. in reference to a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, the deputy observed a gray, 2005 Pontiac G6 fully engulfed in flames. The deputy made contact with the fire chief, Web Marshall Sr., and he advised the deputy that he believed that the fire was arson. The chief also told the deputy that he had called the arson investigator to the scene. The vehicle was transported to the impound lot at the Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center, and the investigation is still active. The car had active insurance coverage and was listed to a 22-year-old female from Sparta.

— Damage to property

A deputy was dispatched to the intersection of Kay Avenue and Sinclair Marina Road Jan. 31 in reference to mailboxes being damaged. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the complainant who said that while he was delivering newspapers, he ran over a mailbox that was lying in the roadway, which caused slight damage to his vehicle by busting a rear tire. The deputy canvassed the area and located several other mailboxes that he had been damaged and removed them from the roadway.

— Theft by taking

On Jan. 31, a deputy was dispatched to the Friendly Gus in the 1300 block of Irwinton Road in reference to a theft by taking incident. Upon arrival, he met with the complainant who stated that an unknown black male entered the business and while he was waiting on the cashier, he grabbed a large donation jar on the counter and stuffed it underneath his jacket and then left the business. The entire incident was recorded on the security system from the store. The case remains active.

— Entering auto

A woman reported Jan. 29 that someone had stolen $200 worth of vitamins out of the trunk of her vehicle. The woman said that she last drove the vehicle Jan. 26 when she went to Atlanta and purchased the vitamins. She said she went to retrieve the items from her vehicle and discovered they were missing. The vehicle, she said, was secured and she doesn’t suspect anyone in her household of taking the items. The woman said that she believes someone has cloned her keyless entry remote to the vehicle and used it to open her car to steal the vitamins.
