MILLEDGEVILLE —
After spending 25 years in the media, Jim Fain sought out a profession that would allow him more time to spend in his hometown and with his family. Fain started with the insurance business in 2007.
“It was either insurance or songwriting, and I can’t write a song,” he said.
Working in the insurance industry, Fain decided that he wanted to own his own business and decided to launch Beckham-Fain Insurance Group.
“I am excited to be open,” he said. “We’ve already sold 50 policies in a month and a half.”
Fain said he hopes to break down barriers between customers and insurance companies by talking to people in plain terms and making the insurance purchasing procedure as easy as possible.
Purchasing insurance is something everyone considers, Fain said, and he hopes people will purchase it locally. On his company website, www.beckhamfainins.com, Fain maintains a blog. The first entry calls on people to purchase insurance — even if on the Internet — from a local agent. The blog entry is titled “Why I Opened and Why You should Help My Competition.”
The agency is located inside Beckham’s Used Cars on North Jefferson Street. Owner Doyle Beckham is Fain’s father-in-law and the location of the business, Fain said, is an advantage to him. He said if he expands in the future, he may like to see a second location elsewhere in Milledgeville.
Fain has been active in the community for years and hopes to keep his dedication to community front and center in his new endeavor.
“I still want to be able to give back to the community,” he said.
Beckham-Fain Insurance Group offers a full line of insurance services and is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays at Beckham’s Used Cars on North Jefferson Street. To contact the business via phone, call (478) 804-0066.
Beckham-Fain Insurance Group will celebrate the launch of the business with a ribbon cutting sponsored by the Milledgeville Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce Thursday, Aug. 12.
Fain was able to participate in a deal that allowed him to bring a clientele with him into his new business and is pleased with the positive response he has received from the community.
“I’ve been blessed — very blessed,” Fain said.
