Area businesses know that a local dollar must be exchanged multiple times to benefit the local economy and the Milledgeville Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce is hoping to reinforce that notion as well as open the Christmas shopping season with a new promotion.
Shop 3 on the 30th is designed to keep those local dollars in the local economy by encouraging shoppers to visit three chamber member businesses on the 30th of each month. Shoppers can register to win prizes from the participating merchants.
“We want everybody to come out on the 30th of the month and shop with at least three local merchants,” Chamber president Tara Peters said. “It’s an effort to stimulate the local economy, start the shopping season and shop local.”
The program is initially set to run from November through June, and the Chamber will promote the program through its various outreaches. As close to the 30th as possible, The Union-Recorder will publish three entry forms shoppers can fill out and drop off in entry boxes at three different participating merchants. Merchants will also have entry forms at their businesses.
The following day, a shopper will be selected at random and present the prize to the shopper.
“Shoppers should come by the chamber and pick up a business directory before hitting the stores,” Peters said. “I think it would really surprise the public just who our chamber members are.”
The shopping initiative is one that Peters said she hopes will kick off the upcoming holiday shopping season and stir an interest in the public to shop at home.
