The Tortoise Shell offers home decor, gifts

Jessica Luton

A new decor and fine gifts store in town offers an elegant selection of bridal and baby registry items as well as contemporary and traditional home decor items.

The Tortoise Shell, located at 1829 N. Columbia St. between Sears and Quiznos, has only been open for a little more than a month, but the interior of the store would suggest a veteran storeowner was in charge.

The stylish selection of home decor items and gifts are beautifully arranged much like that of an upscale showroom of a metro home decor store — offering patrons a glimpse at what the items would look like in an at-home setting.

Owner Danielle McLemore said she opened the store because there was a limited selection of places to shop for home decor items in Milledgeville.

“Milledgeville needed somewhere to shop for home decor,” she said. “I just thought that Milledgeville needed a fun gifts and decor shop.

The store’s name, she said, came about because she wanted a cute, catchy name that people will remember.

“You’ll remember the turtle,” she said.

McLemore calls the selection of decor items transitional with a good selection of contemporary and traditional items available throughout the store.

From sofas to lamps to candle holders and more, the store has a large array of items that may spark your interest in adding a little pizzazz to your home.

Be sure to check out the beautiful contemporary wall hangings, pillows and decorative ornaments — a few items that can add instant spunk to a room.

The store also carries a wide variety of furniture items such as display cabinets, side tables and area rugs.

The store has quite a selection of items for baby shower registries including beautifully embroidered initial bibs, hand-painted paisley picture frames and zebra print and hot pink crib decor accessories.

In addition, the store offers a unique array of items for the bridal registry such as Casafina dishware, a brand that touts itself as “freezer, oven, microwave and dishwasher safe.”

McLemore said the price range varies throughout the store from $5 gifts to more expensive items such as furniture, but she hopes that people will feel welcome to come by and peruse through the store.

The Tortoise Shell is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
