MILLEDGEVILLE —
Just over the river bridge, in a small brick house, a big business is operating.
Sew Sassy Monograms and Designs is located at 108 Kings Road and offers a wide variety of gifts, monogramming and vinyl lettering services.
Owner Shirley Johnson said her customers frequently come to her with special requests and that thus far, she has been successful in helping them. Given the nature of a monogramming business, no two jobs are the same. She gets requests for lots of different artwork, monograms and all types of visual work for embroidery through the business. She has a wide variety of designs already available and has access to thousands more.
“So far, I’ve been able to find what people are looking for,” she said.
Sew Sassy does business all over the place, and Johnson said she gets a lot of business from schools and sports teams. She has recently added magnetic vinyl car signs and car window decals to her repertoire.
“I do a lot of work for the schools,” she said. “I also get a lot of ball teams.”
Johnson said that among the tumblers, purses and wide variety of gifts offered at her shop, a new item has surprised her with her popularity.
“I make baby quilts and they have been beautiful. The first day I put one out, a lady came in and just loved it. I put out three more and sold them,” she said. “I had no idea that people would really like them that much. Wall monograms are really popular, too.”
The turn around for jobs is usually quick, Johnson said, with many embroideries done the same day.
“I’ve had a lot of people tell me my merchandise is less expensive,” she said. “I’ve got lots of gifts — anything you would want.”
Johnson said she has a large amount of repeat business that has come to her as a result of word-of-mouth recommendation. That word has branched out to bring in customers from a wide coverage area.
“I’ve got customers from everywhere,” Johnson said. “I have customers come over from Macon and up from Valdosta to have their monogramming done.”
Sew Sassy has been in business for three years. Johnson can be reached at the store by calling (478) 452-4911 or by e-mailing Mrbyskit@yahoo.com. Store hours are 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
